The telescopes in our School Lab are good for observing the planets. Right now, an opportunity is presenting itself with Jupiter and Saturn. Although Saturn is relatively low above the horizon and the air turbulence is already noticeable, Jupiter is higher and is a very grateful object with details in its atmosphere. Our schoolgirls Lucia and Sophia as well as our club member Simon Gier made video recordings with one of our CCD cameras and processed them accordingly. The result shows not only the planet and its two moons Callisto and Io but also the famous big red spot in Jupiter’s atmosphere. The highlight is the shadow of Io on Jupiter’s surface. Despite bad visibility Saturn with its rings inspires the observer again and again. Here it was still possible to photograph the Cassini division in its rings.
