No other medium provides such an impression of what exists in space as astrophotography. With modern detectors, even small telescopes can take images that could not be achieved 50 years ago with the largest telescopes in the world. Different filters highlight the structures of different elements, such as hydrogen, silicon, or oxygen. In addition, modern software can be used to process the digital images in such a way that further structures become visible. We are truly living in the “golden age of astronomy.”
