Actually, the partial solar eclipse on August 12 could be viewed from many other places in Oberberg. All you needed was a pair of special viewing glasses from an optician or online, and you were good to go. But even on the same day, we started receiving calls asking if we had glasses, what would be happening here, and if people could still come. It was a huge relief for callers without glasses to learn that we would be projecting the event live onto the wall of the seminar room.
After dark, the spectacle continued with the Perseids, the year’s most intense meteor shower. Exclamations and murmurs of amazement rippled through the crowd whenever another trail of light appeared in the sky.
And the hosts? They sat in front of the observatory, completely overwhelmed by the crowds.
