Travel – night work – clouds. Astronomers struggle with obstacles. We want to overcome these with a new observation station. A radio telescope is actually nothing more than an optical telescope. It only works at different wavelengths of light that are invisible to the eye – and to clouds. It can be operated at any time of day or night, in any weather. And when connected to the internet, the observation data can be recorded anywhere – even in schools. Two years ago, our colleague and teacher at the Waldbröl Comprehensive School, Günter Dombrowski, successfully participated in the “MoonBounce” radio astronomy project of the Max Planck Institute for Radio Astronomy in Bonn. We now want to implement this at our observatory.
