A group of students from the Freiherr-vom-Stein-Gymnasium in Betzdorf took a Seestar S50 on loan from the Waldbröl Student Observatory with them to Gran Canaria. Their goal is to take advantage of the clear skies over Las Palmas for observations and to gain hands-on experience in astronomy. The compact instrument was easy to pack securely and transport on the plane. Although there have been many clouds so far, we were already amazed at how high Jupiter and Venus still stand in the sky here at twilight. Now we look forward with great anticipation to clear and calm nights for observation here by the sea.
